It was getting late,
You had not yet shown
It was time to go
You had yet to arrive
The whistle pierced my ears
Steam fogged my view of the road
The calls to board became too strong
You did not appear
I had to leave
My ticket was non-refundable
I tried to wait
But I couldn't
My conscience nudged me,
A painless way to say it was time
So I left my heart at the train station
Because my soul couldn't wait for you
As the towns, trees, and forgotten roads
Pass me by
I trust my heart is in good hands
And the sun turns into stars and night
I pray, someday, you will be mine
Author notes
Probably won't win anything, but it was a great prompt and immediately had my thoughts rolling. For that, I thank you, DwellingInDarkness.

Beautifully done and I loved it, was penned with passion. A little long for contest rules, but I won't DQ it but probably for breaking rules, won't win, even though it is an amazing write.
