Words can affect us,
delivered by voice or by pen.
They get into our being,
absorbed through our skin.
Bones they may not break,
but hearts surely do.
Think of your words,
if they were said back to you.
If the subject matter is bad,
take a little time to plan.
Then say what is needed,
compassionately as you can.
They make a lasting impression,
sometimes bad or even good.
So deliver them with kindness,
like you hope that they would.
