Late May 07. For any who may be interested, 'Late May' 2006, is typed beneath this one.
Late May, this year, might seem to cause dismay.
Rising where the elements do augment,
Were rain and clouds of turbulent extent;
For scarcely was there such, except as grey,
Gale-swept and wandering in wild affray.
Although, of this, we're wary to relent,
Perhaps we should consider a dissent,
For, sometimes, was there warmth and sunny ray.
The pink, five-petalled, country rose, now shows,
And the foxglove, grows, in various hues.
The teeming insect life accrues a bit;
In the lulls, between the times the rain flows,
They come, venture buzzing forth, if they choose.
Midsummer is, the next date, after Whit.

A few bluebells leafy dells implement.
Both Black and White Thorn with blossoms abound.
Flowering Horse Chestnuts are seen around.
Sharp sheaths has nature the green corn stems lent;
From such did the whiskered barley dissent,
Preferring gale's tales its ears to astound;
Seemingly, in these, much int'rest it's found.
Laburnam's fair yellow hair does augment,
Whose showy blooms have the Forsyth's replaced;
Some bestow, though pois'nous, a florid sight.
Gean, solid cherries, is renewing now;
Soon, with bright red, will its branches be laced?
On them, for ripe fruits, blithe birds might alight;
When Cherry and Plum do ripe fruits endow.
