Poems Three

Heaven’s Gate - Rictameter

Sheer joy

At Heaven’s gate

Forever here on earth

With peace and serenity

Home of my sister is of where I speak

Tall pines fresh air and hummingbirds

That is where my heart lies

Purest nature

Sheer joy

Sweet Georgia - Lantourne

Wait

For me

Sweet Georgia

I will return

Soon

Left Behind - Retourne

Tall pines I have left far behind

Cool shade and soft pine covered road

Gentle breeze blows across my path

As I listen to nature’s song.

Cool shade and soft pine covered road

The road leading back home to you

Wind through the tall pines lead me home

Back to you and my hearts true joy.

Gentle breeze blows across my path

Sweet musty scent of our panther

She follows us but never seen

Feel her watchful and cautious glare.

As I listen to nature’s song

The chirping birds and screeching owl

Chickens cackling the rooster crows

Hummingbirds wings soft drumming beat.

Author notes

Rictameter-syllable count 2-4-6-8-10-8-6-4-2, first and last line the same.

Lantourne-syllable count 1-2-3-4-1

Retourne-Like so many other French forms, the retourne is all about repetition. It contains four quatrains (four-line stanzas), and each line has eight syllables. The trick is that the first stanza's second line must also be the second stanza's first line, the first stanza's third line is the third stanza's first, and the first stanza's fourth line is the fourth stanza's first. Retournes do not have to rhyme.

Thanks for educating me about retournes- I never heard of them and they seem quite fun- I must try one someday. These were very lovely writes- I could tell that they came from the heart.

Thanks so much for your wonderful words. I am glad you enjoyed them and that the love I flet came through in my words. Two of the pictures I took when I spent 8 days in Georgia with my Cheyenne sister Tender Wolf. I feel in love with Georgia and hated to leave. These were written shortly after I returned home.

    Impressive

I could not write in such forms. I am in awe of your ability to do so. I am lucky enough to be able to write Haikus and acrostics. I am not brave enough to attempt the more difficult forms of poetry. Perhaps one day I will try my hand at some.

    Thanks for the read

    God Bless
    Tammy
