December 19th, 2002.
Friends and family gather round'.
To sing a song to the birthday boy.
Friends and birthday boy,
embark on a journey,
through the eastern field.
As an orange glow falls,
on the top of tall grass.
Then he sees her.
Missing for two weeks.
Sprawled out,
on a small grass mattress.
That lifeless stare,
in her puppy dog eyes.
With insides hanging.
He imagines the pain.
As tears run down,
rosy red cheeks.
"WHY?!", he asks.
His only true companion,
now gone.
Never to be replaced.
Leaving friends, family,
and presents behind.
He runs inside.
Hours pass.
He comes out,
Shovel and puppy's blanket in hand.
Birthday boy digs.
He digs until the hole,
is as big as the one in his heart.
Then he wraps his furry friend,
in her favorite blanket.
And he cries.

Dang mnan my simpathy and condolences to you. thats a rough age to have your beloved pet being found dead and where you found your pet at. man oh man I was 13 when I found my pet rat dead in my kitchen I still donno how he escapred but it hurt. I can frelate to losing a pet and what knot but a nicely penned poem. keep up the good work -
awww will you poor thing. I can relate although my childhood pet lived a happy and fulfilling life i was still crushed when he died. Pets are like the first and most loyal friends that we will have, because they are not tainted, never waver and love you unconditionally never judging and when we lose a pet thats dear to us, it's like losing your best friend. And for it all to happen on your birthdy too and for you to find her, i can only imagine! I try not to dwell though i just remember all the fun we had together and that puts the smile back on my face.
The lines that really hit me hard
"He digs until the hole,
is as big as the one in his heart."
so powerful and so very true, i still have a whole in my heart that can never be filled for him, but he lives on in my memories as i bet your dog does in yours. Thank you for this entry and good luck in the contest, and will i am sorry for your loss. babi xxx
