Dear My Lord and My God

Dear My Lord and My God,

I'm trying to live in thy shadow,
While I'm trying to be liked by all,
I can't do both as you must see,
Not anymore, I just can't be a thrall.

I think I have my priorities straight,
With you on the top of the list,
But the world has become so materialistic,
It's hard to praise you in their midst.

Maybe I'm just imagining things,
But when I look at that sacred cross,
I feel a sensation of sweet respite,
As though my life isn't a loss.

But when I'm around my fellow peers,
I do not gain that respite,
I sit and watch and move along,
And do not listen to you, despite...

Despite the words that you've put in me,
Despite the calling of my heart.
I'm sickened by my fellow friends,
When you and I they pull apart.

So keep me from their nonsense words,
And let me hold your hand.
I'll walk behind you, following,
And I'll do what you have planned.
