Reminiscence

The ember weaves its web.

Perfectly crafted by design,
thinly spun to catch the floating ashes,
it’s tangled too tightly to pull free.

Each thread dances on memories:
of fluttering fingertips on rosy cheeks
and soft breaths on black lashes.

A touch followed by withdrawal--
the tentacles of reminiscences
curl in serpentine circles
around forgotten wounds.

Where once it burns-- it sputters faintly.

Choking back the regrets--
I reluctantly allow forlorn hope
to tickle the conscience.

This is powerful and well written. I won't pretend to completely understand it though.
