Broken land, and Broken Tribe

Broken land, and broken tribe
the land holds not our people
Destroyed hut, without a roof
this house holds not our family
Hopeless grain, that thirsts for water
this farm holds not our hunger
Baren land, torturing tolerant feet
this ground holds not our bodies
Listless newborn, starving she stares
this food holds not our future
Flies invade, energy must be conserved
the "help" holds not our strength
Wealth abounds, where there is no need
their wealth holds not our worries
Some care, but those who do aren't enough
their concern holds not our entirety
Broken land, and broken tribe
the land holds not our people

Author notes

30,000 people a day die of hunger, and what do we do about it? About a dozen died in the Virginia Tech shooting and the whole country was deeply mourned, but we completely ignore 30,000. That's a lot of people.

Nice write, but I forgot to mention in my rules: I don't want entries that have already won in another contest. Great idea, though. Thanks for sharing it and thanks for checkin' out my contest. Best wishes and take care.

    Superb

In every country there seem to be two nations - those who have too much and those who have too little, often nothing. The idea has been so admirably expressed! One of the best poems I have come accross in Allpoetry.

Wow, thank you so much. I'm really glad you liked it. The greediness of people seperates,as you said, people into 2 groups. It's a huge problem that doesn't see an end, but that doesn't mean we can't help. Personally, I really admire the work Worldvision does.
