On A Greyhound Bus To Nowhere

The Greyhound pulled into the station
Off the turnpike near Valentine
She was waiting with her bags packed
To leave another life behind
In a small town words are spoken
In cautious whispers filled with hate
So she took her own advice here
And boarded the bus just to escape.

(refrain)
Now the road seems awfully winding
Like the dreams she used to share
But with dreams there comes a point
When time is up with nothing more to spare
In this world of false salvations
You can only hope to find
On a Greyhound bus to nowhere
Maybe another place in time.

So now she travels all the byways
And the backroads of Arkansas
From the Ozarks to the Mississippi
Across the Delta on to Baltimore
In that Greyhound Bus to freedom
Where she knows she'll make her stand
As she rides into eternity
To her reward in the Promise Land...

(refrain)
Now the road seems awfully winding
Like the dreams she used to share
But with dreams there comes a point
When time is up with nothing more to spare
In this world of false salvations
You can only hope to find
On a Greyhound bus to nowhere
Maybe another place in time.

Yes, on that Greyhound Bus to somewhere
To her reward in the Promise Land
On a Greyhound Bus to somewhere
Beyond forever in the Promise Land...

  • I was pulled into this from the start, thank you for entering! The idea's really interesting, and I'd like to hear this as a song. Well done rhyme as well.

That was really really awesome. Thank you so much for entering.

I love the progression from nowhere to somewhere and the different things you implied without actually saying.

So now she travels all the byways
    And the backroads of Arkansas
From the Ozarks to the Mississippi
Across the Delta on to Baltimore

    I like that part especially.

Grand penning, my Friend...A great beginning to a telling tale...I like Sara Evans & could easily imagine her singing this one...Good luck in the contest, Sweetie... Wanda

    Great

Excellent write. The words flow perfectly together.
I wasn't sure if this was lyrics or not, but it seemed to make the poem all the more enticing. excellent write
