A soldier disappears again

The family and his friends
Yet he died for his country
A million should be mourning

You hear it on the news
Your respect? You flip the channel.
Thats fine.
Really. It is.
I chose this job.
I asked for this
Its my priviledge
My passion.
Its my mark in life...
A UNITED STATES MARINE.
Thats all that mattered to me.

"Death before dishonor" I have a tattoo on my arm that says that. I got it for my dad. the sad truth is that as much as I son't want to believe it, It is true, When anyone hears about another fallen soldier, A fallen angel, they don't show them the respect. Even many other young military men don't understand the "Moment of silence" and what it means. It is a way to say thank you. A man or woman who makes the ultimate sacrifice earns the ultimate respect. And as i told another writer. we don't EXPECT thanks, WE just do not WELCOME the disdain we are shown.

True, so true, and I can't imagine how much it must hurt. I've seen the websites set up to send soldiers care packages, even if you don't know the soldier yourself [by soldier I mean to encompass those on foot, land, sea, sky] - which I think are so worthy of organisations and yet .. for me to try and imagine being on the other end is more impossible than me flying. I speak of my approvals, and hatred, each for various parts of the defence forces / defence force life, and yet i truly have no idea, no idea whatsoever....
That said, people [we all] also turn the channel when seeing ads for third world countries, flies buzzing around childrens' faces, strays in india, heck children dying in india etc- not so much that all people don't care but also jsut a self preservation. But there's only so far that that can be taken and we should all do our part.
