In my old desert home
The streets are aflame
Sanguine fire that bleeds
And we know who’s to blame
But in my old desert home
There used to be peace
Ancient cities never fallen
Now the guns never cease
And in somebody’s home
There lies a man dead
Every day of every year
And a million tears are shed
In everybody’s home
I hope one hopes for an end
That sometime in New York City
We will all transcend
In New York City,
I hope the bell will ring
I hope guns will disappear
I hope war drums will cease to sing
But in my old desert home
The Jihad has begun
But still I hope that someday, soon,
Our wrongs can be undone.

Author notes
Sanguine - crimson, bloodred. "Sanguine fire" refers to "angry" blood, or ... ya know. On fire. Not literally.
References are to Iraq and the UN building in NYC. In the building there is a courtyard which houses a Japanese-style garden. In the center of the garden is a bell which is to be rung when there is peace between all nations.
Will it ever ring?
Will you help it ring?

Amazing! You just weave together these different cultures and nations creating yourself as mediator.
You show beautiful strength in convictions as well as imagery to bring these thoughts through. Just a powerful write and one I'm certainly glad I had a chance to read. Best to you in all your pursuits.

impressive
Unfiortunately as a reader of history the Jihad began many centuries ago. as A Brooklyn guy I have a special pain. And you as a young poet have a future and a chance to change this sad world

I do think it will happen in my life time. The concept of peace is nice to hear in our war toren times. Lately we have had so many wars. I wondering if we can make it a hundred years between war. I like the imagery you created in this write. I too share your desier for peace. I like the ending the hope for peace. Very well put
