On the Other Side of Life

On the other side of windows
From the outside looking in
You think you’re all so high and mighty
Lacking any sin

But no one can be perfect
We can see it in your eyes
That in your heart and soul is where
True imperfection lies

On the other side of hallways
You walk like you’re a saint
But that’s only because no one
Can see behind the paint

Yeah, you’re a demon wearing Prada
You’re the devil in high heels
And you don’t care a fragment about
What we think and feel

For we’re just middle-class to you
We might as well be air
Unless, of course, we say something
Or comment on your hair

On the other side of courtyards
Your peers want to be you
But they can’t see the devil that lies
Just beyond their view

For your heart is a ruby red
As sharp and tough as nails
A gaping hole is now your soul
It lies behind a veil

On the other side of lifestyles
I pity you in full
Despite all your expensive things
Your life is drab and dull

You say your life is going great
But you’re not fooling me
When was the last time anyone
Saw past all the debris?

Author notes

Just for the record, this poem does not describe anyone I ctually know. However, I imagine that there must be someone like this out there, somewhere. Inspired by a number of things, including but not limited to: the movie "The Devil Wears Prada", and a song by the Click Five called "Angel to You(Devil to Me)".

Yeah I know exactly what you mean. i've met so many fake people in school and all over the place. And it's not just the doll fake thing, but just little simple things. I like how you get frustration out in this poem. Good job!
