A Mother's love

Has it been nearly eight years since that day?
I loved you then as I love you now and always will
You were the shoulder to cry on
Listener, comforter, friend
I can still feel your arms cradling me
Holding me, keeping all harm away
No problem was too big to be solved
When you were near
Wise words and a smile that lit up the day
Had a warmth greater than the sun

Your laughter still rings in my ears
The soft sweet tone of your voice
Those funny stories
That you repeated more often as you grew older
The pain and bad times you retold with tears
So many years, so many moments
So much to remember

So many memories of you as your child grew
I was never alone, you were my strength
I became your carer
Always there in your time of need
Roles reversed
I would do it again today if I could
‘It’s no fun getting old’
You used to say
I miss you so today

I was not there when you entered the new world
I was not there to hold your hand
I will live with that regret till we meet again
Till your arms surround me once more
When I hear you say ‘It’s ok, don’t cry, I understand’

Till that hour comes I will see you in my dreams
Your smiling face and laughing eyes
Will speak words and touch my soul as no other
And I will live each day in your love
Dear sweet mother
