I struggle as the darkness overcomes me
open my mouth but only silence escapes my lips
my mind resists to no avail
as my body looses the fight and I slip away
I find myself in an unfamiliar place
strangers greet me with sweet hellos and lying eyes
join us they shout
your pain and sorrow will be no more
I close myself off blocking out their cries
must find my way back to the world I left behind
there is too much left undone
too much left to say
“Wake up, wake up, It is only a dream”
a voice beckons to me
my eyes meet hers and I am home once again
the world beyond is becomes a distant memory
Author notes
(Has anyone ever had one of those dreams that no matter how hard you struggle you just can’t wake up? I wrote this a long time ago, while I was still in college. To this day I can still feel and see it.)
Please tell me what you think

The title suits this poem perfectly. I can totally see this. It's happened to me a couple of times, and this describes it perfectly.
