If I were a better man
Ne'er a pirate would I be.
For the blowing spray is in
My face
But my Lover is not at sea
The gulls cry out to wake me
But her sweet voice I hear instead
I sweep my eyes across
The room
But my Love is not in my bed.
The shining gold I cleave to
Is not what I long to embrace
The silky sweep of her long
Blond hair
But my Love is far from this place.
If you are a wiser man
Ne'er a pirate should you be
For Love has come into
My life
But my Lover I left
For the Sea.

Wow. This is amazing, it blew me away. It's the sweetest, saddest pirate poem I've read. Very creative, great use of the senses and great imagery. You have really captured a deprived (of his girl) and reflective pirate well, and I thank you for entering.
