Of Thoughts and Shovels

The words I write reveal a gift,
Given by the One who made me,
And they reveal a cursed rift;
A mind to easily rape me;

But this mind that I can’t leave,
It will always think;
It’s to His Word, I must cleave,
When my thoughts make me sink;

If my thoughts were shovels,
I’d be reaching China;
Their depths make me grovel;
I need my holy Refiner;

If my thoughts were real,
I’d die a million deaths;
They bring up fears I feel,
It’s hard to catch my breath;

With the Word as my path,
His Spirit as my fuel,
I leave behind my fear’s wrath;
My Lord must be my rule;

The Spirit rearranges,
His Word, it makes me sing;
It’s then my mind it changes;
It becomes my wings;

Even now, you see here,
I go from low to high;
May His truth give me cheer,
When, to Him, I draw nigh;

If this write cheers you,
Then give my Giver a hand;
If your mind needs truth,
Fuel it with His commands;

I thank You, Lord, you teach me;
You made me your disciple;
I’ve let Your Spirit reach me,
With wisdom so insightful.

Author notes

"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you."--Philippians 4:8-9

Christianity is more than a religion, it's a relationship. Like all relationships there must be communication. For that the Lord gave us His Word, the Bible to communicate to us.

When we read and let it change our mindset, we see things His way, and are uplifted. Without it, we are reduced to who we are, who we have to endure, living in a cursed world. We lose sight of Who He is and what He has in mind for us. Having that is the Hope He promises.

    Wonderfully uplifting

    Thank God for His Word. If we were left to our own thoughts we surely would dig a hole way past China!

    Everyday before I go into the enemies camp - the school at which I work - I pray that I take each and every thought captive and bring it to my Lord. Only He can straighten out my crooked thinking and fill my mind with the mind of Christ.

    Well said and well penned.

    I hope you have a very memorable weekend!

    Hugs - joanne
