These Three Words

These three words are hard to say
Because we're afraid to say them sometimes.
These three words are taken for granted
Because we assume that they're always true.
We're embarassed to say these three words
Because some feel they make us soft.
But these three words can be meant in many ways,
For a parent, a sibling, a significant other,
A spouse, a best friend, even life itself.
These three words can be hard to believe
Because there are those who go long without it.
These three words should be used best
When that feeling is real.
These three words should never be misused
For the consequence can cause much pain.
We use these three words not knowing
What our actions may entail.
We use these three words out of desperation
When it is too late to right a wrong.
I fear that a wrong I committed may be too much
For even these words to overcome.
These three words are so simple
Yet so difficult to express.
These three words are so easy to believe,
Yet so hard to believe.
These three words are my way of apologizing
For an innocent mistake that never should have
happened.
I hope there can be forgiveness with these three
words.
I just want there to be hope with these three words,
For these three words are the only words I can think
of.
These three words are taken for granted
Because we assume that they're always true.
In this scenario, there's no doubt whatsoever
That these three words true.
