Sunrise

... and I walk down a cobblestone street
lined on each side with sweet shops galore.
The venders and peddlers shouting their clever sales pitch
are hardly heard over the ruckus of the thick crowds;
boisterous revelers
celebrate the star strewn night,
dressed in the glitzy and gaudy -
silver and gold shimmer
against a backdrop of bright jewel tones -
buying candies and cakes and ice creams
to stuff themselves and each other with,
as they dance the jig to a jaunty melody
played by a single nimble fingered player,
whose presence is unseen,
yet whose music is honored throughout the town
with twirls and two steps;
the laughter of the carefree audience
unknowingly playing a masterful duet
to the sprightly twitters of the flute,
racing up and down the scales of sound
- faster and faster -
urging the masses of beating hears into a frenzied race,
my own heart pounding alongside,
chaos swimming in my confused thoughts
- faster and faster...

I wake.
The alarm is buzzing irritably.
My sunrise wake-up call.

Please tell me what you think
