The day I found out

Your liquid spirit drenched me into a stark realisation
I stood cold and wet, at the edge of nostalgia
and one by one, memories trickled down my spine
they curled at the back of my knees
and slid down to the tips of my stance
steadying me into this pit borne of torn flesh

Currency of a spent life was measured in tears
plump, moist, healing droplets of comfort
that soothed my wrinkled skin
and reminded me of the glorious ache of sorrow
the valour of your gallantry
and the austerity of our union
they reminded me I was alive – and that you were not.

I looked out upon the limn of my beating heart
and found your thoughts with one glance
The oil of gladness was poured over my head
with the delicacy of your intimate hand
and the intensity of a masterful stroke

And as you raised my chin
to squeeze the last of the day’s rays
I remembered how you breathed me into life
with a brush of discovery,
a sculptured poise
and an eye for fine detail.

You regaled me of  India’s discretion
tasted the fruits of  my lips
and together we sang words of triumph -
of hope -
of joy and of love.

Inhibitions lay barren on the floor
of this bohemian dream
and as I lay in your lap and succumbed to chivalry,
your silken hands carried me into the eternal land of  friendship
forever to remain as a living and flowing work of splendour

This love that burns me deeper than the sea
unearths the treasure I found, the artist’s love for me
and I shall breathe of its imagery
revel in its solitary grace
and continue to swim in the waters that flourish and refresh anew
each time I cast my eye upon the Lord of all memories.

Author notes

this describes the day a friend of mine, renowned artist and poet Ted Lord passed on.
