Death of a Diety, Birth of Another

The shadows that surround
In a cloud of forgotten memories
Of what once existed
And the distant cries
For what's already there

All around me spinning
The laughing faces of chaos
The living breathing ghosts
Of the long dead gods
That taunt and tease in spite
Of the mortality we possess

In a fit of impurity
They run us to the ground
Toying with my mind
With the mad cackling of
A crazed villian striking out
To escape the grips of authority
And the tendrils that snake out
To bind them to the river of death

Nails dragging along on the ground
In a last attempt at rejection
Of a fate long decided
The marks of their claws
The echos of their cries
Shaking the mountains and splitting the earth
As the oceans boil with the death cries
Of what we once believed to be
The divine beings of the
Star covered heavens

The moon turns red
As the death of a diety rings forth
And the children of the earth
Bend the knee as a god is born anew
Rising from the sticks and stones
The moss and vines that surface the earth
Forming muscles and a beating heart of soil
For which to create a being pure of earth
To guide mankind to what it once knew

As destiny
