never-never

in emptiness and clarity,
your touch is one that opens me
to split-second funerals in rowan
raw with branches raped not begged

this silence was one spelt in heartbeat
mimicked, skin replete
with unison risefallfreeze
blending ‘identical’ to ‘alone’

and I remember ~ these fingers are mine,
shivering with trust sharp as needles
mining veins for ink

this skin
is empty, thin with foreignness
tracking down arms like a lifeline
to a world outside myself

where people
touch
and fall and fly
like finger-twined peter pans to their forever

you know.

the one that isn’t there.

Author notes

Rowan for protection. The branch you pray the tree for and bind in crosses over doorways. Or. Don't.

This. Started not-me but wasn't, by the end. So much for annonymity.

Huh. I thought I commented on this already. Sigh. Anyway, let me just say that this is incredibly raw, emotional, but still has enough power in its form and structure to come across as a complete piece of poetry. Images like rapped and raw rowan, or just the rough "r" sounds all together added to the impact this piece had on me. The soft "f" sounds in the final stanza, also, left me with a feeling like I'd just been used and abused but then patted on the head until I fell asleep. lol. Loved this.

I love the simplicity of this.
The subject is something that I think mostly everyone on AP can relate to at some point- especially me.
I think out of all of your poems that I've read, this one has the most of your personality and soul in it, which is something that doesn't show up as much in your other poems. You've combined profound emotion with profound metaphor. Excellent job. This is one of my favorites out of all the poems I've read of yours.

I can't take that this has only one comment
The deepness and beauty of this was astounding
The emotion in the words and the sheer beauty of it was amazing, it was so clear and beautiful
It was so clever and crafted
    Well done
