Oh Rose Marie

My name is Nelson Eddy
I have a job that`s steady
I am a R.C.M.P Mountie
Don`t hunt for guys with bounties
But any rotten crook
That has gone and slung his hook.
All on the silver screen
Where I look smart and clean
Jeanette is my co-star
Squeaky clean as a wet soap bar.
When we duet sing
You can hear the mountains ring
"When I`m calling youoooooo
Will you answer trueoooooo?
Those were the days my friend
We thought they`d never end
But sadly all to soon
It all went out of tune.
Fashion lot its savour
So now we`re out of favour.
We are still on 78`s
Now sadly out of date.
Time and tide move on
We were stars once, now we`re gone

Author notes

While I have never heard of them, this poem reminded me of Dudly Dooright - remember that cartoon. Now you have me wondering about thist duet. I will have to look them up. I like the rhyme - it makes this a fun, light hearted poem to read.

Yes, this was quite the pair of singers in their day - that happens to all stars that come and go, and new ones fill in to take their places. Good rhythm and rhyme in these lines. Well known Canadians.

I don't know Eddy and MacDonald, but they sound like the perfect pair in their time. If you know me, you know I'm a fanatic of rhythm and rhyme...and friend I have to say...you mastered every line!

Ah yes, I remember them well! They were one of my Mum's favourite singing duo. As you have said, all was squeaky clean, well on screen anyway, no doubt their private lives were a different story! Well done on this nostalgia trip.

Or Dudly Dooright and Nell. Someone should do a piece on Red Green and the many uses of duct tape. I recall watching this ol' flick. And they've made that song synonomus with the Mounty's and the Canadian Rockies.Ours here in the US of A are impressive too.Good healthy intertainment we could use more of.
