The concrete sidewalk and tattered clothes blanket
my weary bones as I lull myself to slumber.
The smells of urine perfume the air and rotting
garbage intoxicates my lungs as I take a breath.
People point and stare as they pass me by.
Some throw change and others tell me to get a job.
I once had a job, home, and a family..
I once had a happy life and a bed to sleep in.
I was once just like you, happy.
I fell victim to the evils of this world.
They robbed me and took away all my self respect
.
I was in the crippling hands of alcoholism.
Who would have thought one beer would seal my fate?
One became two and three and so on.
Look at me now, I have hit rock bottom.
I fight to survive on these cold hard streets.
I have noone and I am so scared and alone.
My empty soul is a bottomless pit of darkness.
My life is a barren wasteland of nothingness.
As I cry myself to sleep, I cry out to God,
rescue me from this nightmare and release me from this cell.
Fill the emptiness that consumes and chokes me.
I open my eyes and look straight into the eyes of an angel.
She helps me up and tells me she loves me and Jesus does too.
She hands me a plate of food, some clean clothes, and a bible.
From this day on, I know my life has purpose and meaning.
God had sent me an angel to save my shattered life.
There is hope for me and love and mercy fills the emptiness.
Salvation has chased away the darkness, I am not alone.
The streets will become a faded memory as I paint on a new canvas of life.

I have a poem called Broken Soles that speaks of this very subject matter. how sad and somber it must be to an addict to alchohol for it is a downer and drowns the depressor deeper. Untill you find Jesus you do not have a chance. thank God I know you are on the right road to recovery.
A dogmatic creation you have here.

How beautiful your words are to me, being in recovery, I know how this would touch many in my situation. I love where there is an angel holding out their hand to take you and show you the way "home". I am painting on my new canvas now and the painting is beautiful. God bless you.
Hugs and love,

This was a tough one to read because it has the down and out truth to it all, and the imagery of urine is so sureal, A very sad place to be but it happens but at times that simple act of kindness as the Earth Angel handing him a plate of food and a bible was all it took to restore his faith..
A great pros through poetry.
Thanks for sharing
