Shaded reflections

I lived in silent yearning
As I followed the same path
And chased the waves
Mastering the outer world
But never knowing my own

One day, I strayed from the trail
And ventured toward the edge of the woods
Walking for days,
I grew wise and started to find myself
Each step brought me closer
Until one day, I reached a cottage

All the doors locked tight
Entrapping an inner world of mysterious realms
With a key buried deep inside

Longing to get just a peek,
I peer in the glassy windows
And press my nose against the glass
As reflections of consciousness shimmer on the surface
Rippling shallowly like moonlight
All the colors of awareness glitter upon darkness
The curtains are drawn
And the velvety ripples mask the inside

I wonder who dwells inside
And what secrets hide within
I can only imagine
And wait for them
to slip out under the door one by one
As shadows creep out of hiding
And the fog begins to thin

Until then I gaze endlessly
As their vision shimmers upon mine
Swirling upon the windows to my soul

One cannot truly know the outer world until they know the inner. As you have found the answers are not outer there, they are within each one of us. There is a locked place in our souls we need to open up to find our final release.

I felt you were looking at your life and the people who have left that you have known, met or even loved. It is deeply written and has much emotion in it, maybe you could even view it from a societal angle, the mess we all make in this world and don't clean up, looking for the answers to it all. An enjoyable read.
