Seeking Employment Near the Army Depot

under the threat of rain
a funeral will be held today
under a blue tarp
at a country church
some of the aging children will attend,

they will look sideways at the coffin,
not really seeing the contents
but noting its cost.

Most will not carry an umbrella,
another unnecessary expense,
until this year when it rained.

K..took a bit of bending but I think I have my head around the depth of this piece.

My main leap was from the poem to the critera of the contest, and the message that I get from you words speaks of redundancy, retrenchment...and not quite being prepared for the rainy day that turned out to be stormy weather.
