Compare me not to fresh cream bought to-day;
I am more ripened, and less temperate.
My smell doth seek to take one’s breath away.
My ‘sell by’ label’s, all too short a date.
Sometimes too hot, the eye of housewife shines
alas, to notice my complexion dimm’d.
No longer fair, as double cream sublime.
But thy eternal summer bade, I’ve sinned.
By chance, too late, returned to fridge, to wait.
Till infernal mould, so green, now hath grow’st.
And death shall brag, ‘twas I adorned your plate.
Those pains severe, ‘tis thanks to me thou ow’st.
When thou, so ill, was heard to say, too late,
“I think, it must be something that I ate”

I had to start laughing soon as I saw the picture, saying, "Nasty!" So now, I'm trying to read it for the technique, and I can't stop laughing all the way through. The only issue is line 1 of stanza 1: too many syllables. The rest of the poem was fine in that regard, and your imagery . . . oh gosh, yeah, I'm still laughing. The couplet is an especially tasty tidbit, and it sits just fine! Thanks so much for entering my contest!

I don't appreciate you sneaking in my fridge like that
I swear I think there is some sour cream in there right now like that, I forget about it. haha. Great job, congratulations on your win.

What a strange yet wonderful idea for a sonnet

Looks like some mysterious things I've been known to drag out of the deep depths of my fridge at times
I always find that when I first decide to put something in the fridge for 'later', I always say to myself "Nah...probably won't use it", but put in the fridge just in case
Well done on this one and best of luck
