Whom Shall I Fear?

When David's life was in a mess
He called on God in his distress,
We read, 'be strong, and take heart'
Because God made His fears depart.

Many times we know he prayed
'Of Whom am I to be afraid?'
He knew his heart with God was right,
And often this was to be God's fight.

He asked the Lord, 'Whom shall I fear?'
He knew the Lord will always hear,
God settled his fears, made him calm,
In thanks, he'd write another Psalm.

A wise man was Nehemiah,
Prayer was what he did require,
His enemies tried to give him curry,
But he never seemed to worry.

So now when I am terrified,
I recall that I am on God's side,
The Word in Scripture gives me hope -
The Holy Spirit helps me cope.

(Psalms, Romans 15:4,5, Nehemiah)

This isn't quite related to the picture. I wanted to show God encourages us through His Word.

    Amen!

One of my favorite movies is the Christian football movie "Facing the Giants" and I always loved the whole Mehemiah building the stonewall part. This is a great poem and indeed, Whom shall I fear? With God with us, who could be against us? I loved this poem and hope to read so much more from you in the future! Take care and God bless.

This is a wonderful poem of love and devotion I really like that you have written this with such strength of purpose... yes, the flow is a little awkward as others have said... but your belief shines through your words and is beautiful

    Keep writing

A wonderful poem. The rhythm is rough in places, but otherwise a delight to read. Good rhyming.

I had to smile when I read this since I relate to it oh, so well:

Other than the flow being interrupted between lines 12 and 13 its a great poem and very true. I really appreciate having the opportunity to read this.

Very pretty, and ripe with truth. I love the fact that you wrote your poem about a poet. I wonder if David would have been a member of "AllPoetry?" Great choice of rhyming words, most flowed well. I got hung up on lines 13 and 14 for some reason. Something is not quite right there. Even so, the message of security through God is strong and clear. Keep up the nice work!

You know, I always find it to be a shame that one cannot find inspiration and encouragement and solace in some source aside from God. It depresses me, that we've come to this. I dream of a day when one can look at the sun, or a flower, or a garden, or a leaf blowing in the wind, or listen to a piece of music, and say, "Yes, that is it." Without having to look to something that simply is not there.

Not spiritual warfare: Religious warfare. Spirituality and Religion are not synonymous.

a journey of the life revealing the black and white postures of our acts and its relevance towards results...I love its truths that is really very effective and very true as well..what a depth and what a flow of the muse here bringing a kind of spirtual touch to the eyes and revealation touch to the soul as well..Indeed a very soft journey of
the heart is here revealing the meaning of the life
here.. a truth of life you have portrayed here in the magical words of your poem here...

Oh yes God does definitely help us cope, I am sure that if it werent for Him we would never get through the tough situations we face in our lives. I liked how you wrote this pretty related to the Bible.

Very Nice poem. Sadly though while I was reading it I found that it had a somewhat forced ryhyme. Otherwise the overall picture of the poem is very nice. One thing that I noticed that didn't seem to quite fit was that you were talking about King David almost the whole poem and then in the middle of it threw in Nehemiah as if he was just a random thought that seemed to fit. While both men could easily fit perfectly into what you were trying to say. I think that it would be best if you were to go back and edit the piece, focusing on one man. Then it will be more put together.

I may check out this poem again and consider what you suggested. At the time, though, I was looking for a theme rather than a particular poet and David provided it. Then, if I remember rightly... Nehemiah popped into my head and I figured that he exemplified the theme, too. But I intend to check out this poem again and see if I can retain the theme minus my old mate/hero Nehemiah. Thank you for your suggestion.

I agree with drybones. We are constantly in a war with evil, whether it is in the form of sin, fear, whatever. This was a great poem. Write on! ~*~SP~*~

    Very good

Whether we realize it or not, spiritual warfare rages around us all. The faithful are always the target of the assult by the forces of darkness. Sadly, far too many of us refuse to join the battle because we do not realize the battle and the victory belongs to God. There is no place of neutrality in this battle and God does not need cheerleaders. Well done.
