Savannah

Savannah

Peggy is pretty,
but Savannah is prettier still,
though old,
at only four,
and the world
is awfully complicated
especially Mom
who's always saying no.

I guess
there's nothing much to say
about those big eyes,
looking at things,
while Peggy does the dishes,
except to find out why,
just so Savannah knows,
about Peggy being pretty,
some little while ago.

    Such a powerfully acurate insight into childhood in the modern day. Once childhood was simple, now adult life starts so early for so many.
