Chain Reaction

I feel him watching.

I look up,
he looks away.

A quick glance at blue eyes.

he laughs,
I smile.

I can't help it.

He asks,
I answer.

Mark it on my calendar.

I had a blast,
he did too.

Two years later...

i look up,
he's staring again.

Old habits die hard.

I laugh,
he smiles.

It must be a love thing.

He asks,
I answer.

Diamond ring in hand.

He calls friends,
I call family.

Two more years...

I look up
four eyes stare back.

It's a boy.

I cry,
he cries,

and then the baby starts.

He asks,
I answer.

We finally agree on a name.

He pulls up the car,
we all drive home.

Another two years...

I look up,
he looks away.

A broken heart won't mend.

I cry,
he leaves.

Walking away is easier.

I ask,
he answers.

It's the only way.

He gets the car,
I get the house.
