These tresses are but armor
I use to shroud, to hide
Black as ink or cherry red
This veil shields my eyes
Keeping my soul
From your discerning sight
Too ugly for this world
Other souls are far more bright
This is what it's like to be
A patched soul, without a mate
I am quite used to my lot
Resigned to my solitary fate
So I'll keep my head bowed
So I don't see held hands and wedding cake
Though I smile and shake your hand
There are some things I can't face
I cannot walk unscathed, unbowed
Through this marriage maze
