Winter Waltz

Snow,
icy crystals that dictate beauty in a new perspective.
They capture the sun
and enhance the moon.

My thoughts were on you
as I walked across the snow coated ground.
This would be a winter of peace,
love,
and hot chocolate by the fire.

This would also be a winter
that you wouldn't know of.
This winter is something you won't experience
because you are gone,
forever.

I smile as my breath turns to fog,
but the smile fades as I remember you.
Closing my eyes as I stop beneath the trees,
I wonder if you would have been here with me.

You were like my big sister
all those years ago.
We had no worries,
just each other.
But maybe that was a falsehood.

Shaking away bad thoughts,
I start my trek once more.
Even if this winter hasn't started,
even if it takes too long to come,
I'll keep it in my memory.

I'll keep that image for you.

That's so terribly sad, but the poem is sweet. I loved the second stanza, though the whole thing was lovely and peaceful. The lines "Closing my eyes as I stop beneath the trees, / I wonder if you would have been here with me" & the last line broke my heart.
