Death

Death
A poem by Stella Lee

What is death?
What lies beyond it?
Is it the heaven we so long for and seek?
Or is it the burning depths of hell?
Perhaps it is neither.
Perhaps death is an emptiness,
A nothing in which we exist in.

What causes death?
Is it because we are humans?
Does every gunshot, each stab, every gash
Sway the balance between life and death?
Is every injury, fall, and close calls
So fateful to our lives?

Is it Karma?

If we did nothing wrong…
Would Death still come upon us?
Are we continually walking Death’s path?
Can we deny it?
Can we avoid it?
We continue, unaware, of our steps.
Closer to Life, its light shines bright,
We are ignorant of the passing time.
...With each second, we are closer to Death.

    Sorry ...

but this is a bit too cliche for this contest. Everybody is dying from the time they are born. The whole world knows it. What you've said here is not anything new. I'm looking for something new and different.

As to the writing, it's not bad. It just isn't what I'm looking for here.

Good luck with all those other contests and Happy New Year.

I liked what I read. I have been skimming most of the poems in my contest. However, I have sworn up and down that I would be back to read and comment them as they deserve tomorrow. Well best of luck.

~You must really like your English class to write something this well thought out. It asks the questions people really are too afraid to ask. Excellent Job.

This is quite a beautifully tragic poem. The ending wasn't as strong as it could have been, but it's strong enough. I'm curious what would be your theme in continuing to the next rounds, and looking forward to more poems on any theme following this. Good luck!

I liked this piece. It makes you wonder whether or not we are walking deaths path and what causes death. Also I like how in each stanza you ask four questions, it leaves you wondering and thinking. Nicely done, thanks for entering and best of luck to you in my contest my dear...

ah death it is but a simple state, of not being alive. perhaps there is somethign more when we leave this life, we will all discover the answer to that one day, perhaps, for if there is nothing more then when we die we will never know
