Sweet heart of youth,
they will not let me tell you the truth,
they fear for you.
we’ll see what we can do
to
--(Circumvent)--
their Rule.
as we progress
we will find it more difficult to digest
as foul beasts
crowd around the edges
demanding to be heard
they are only afraid
just as we are,
sometimes they need to be embraced
and sometimes chained
and that’s what this is all about,
learning which.
1. Love--
Time was, and a very long time it was,
So long in fact, that it was once upon a time
when I was youthful too,
I had a buddy who cussed all day long,
and another, umm, how shall we say,
“dated” girls who were very much older than him,
he was very pretty,
became an engineer and married many times--
Ah, Love, sweet love,
it won’t go away you know,
it’s a disease, and always fatal,
and always more than you can bear;
nor is it fair,
the haunting eyes, the shapely leg,
the stuttering,
the emptiness
the silence when you really should talk,
the god awful pain when they are not there
the god awful pain when they are.
The absolute inadequacy of any word
ever spoken or read or written
to express what you are truly feeling
inside.
“Farewell, thou art too dear for my possessing”

2.- Sex
Now when you saw that title you clicked.
No, today’s topic is Truth,
since in your mind you already know
everything there is to know about that other subject.
I mean, after all, you are Today’s Youth,
Which brings us to the truth,
which is a very thorny subject indeed,
since everyone will lie to you,
and of course, agree
including me if you are not careful
of what I say.
these very words before you,
are lies, we can begin with that,
or end it so, as they stand for every thing,
and nothing at all
even when they rhyme,
or not at all.
so standing as we are
on such shifting sand,
where do we go?
And of what can we be certain?
oddly enough,
only that within your heart.
3. Beauty
Now this will lead us far a field,
a mouse running down his hole,
because he’s afraid of you
a butterfly on a rock
or a fire that keeps you warm..
and some have said,
that beauty is truth and truth beauty,
or
beauty is that which within you lies,
I am afraid that it is otherwise,
knowing the souls that linger here,
but you may prove me wrong,
but beware; it is a road with snares.
(See life and work of Alexander Pope.)
4. Patience
Not everything will be delivered to you instantly.
Sometimes you will have to wait,
do it with good cheer,
evil must exist
for good to have any meaning at all,
worry about that while you hang around.
Work on something else
until the words arrive.
5. Selfishness
this one is all about You
but just about everything is, anyway.
that is about You.
that’s what people need to realize,
it’s You that is important
not their stupid Rules.
Every thing that ever was
was about You to start with
and people ought to realize
that and not criticize You
since You are right anyhow
and they are all wrong
ant they should love You
and stop making You clean up your room.

Yeah they all think it is about them don't they everyone else. And yes they should they should.
Actually I think I was never a child but doodled at age 28 when someone was bored waiting for a train at Waterloo Station.

-
blah blah blah blah blah...sometimes..that is what comments sound like to me when i read them. and that is why i don't go out that much - truly. i don't want to be rude or blah blah blah blah. and why do people feel they need to copy and paste lines from the author's poems into their comments? oh, i'm rude tonight. sorry. all these comments are wonderful and lovely. i should be ashamed of myself. for me? its just the fact that you cared enough to write this that matters. you cared.

"nor is it fair,
the haunting eyes, the shapely leg"
Young unknowing - Even in dreams
shall it come to pass.
Then welcome, in dreams, it comes.
Then unwelcome, in rigid unsated nightmares,
It stays - unforfilled.
The exicution of number 2 is great - sex - no truth...
"in your mind you already know
everything there is to know about that other subject"
hehe never. I disagree, always new pillows unturned and treasures to be discovered.
A simple yet profound statement:
"Not everything will be delivered to you instantly.
Sometimes you will have to wait"
So, what do I find here, overall - Title - indicative of a rule book, fits the piece well. An exploration of self, humanity, truth, youth, beauty, and self-admiration.
I am a sucker for a meaty poem. This is a thought provoking piece. Good work.

i don't know if i was supposed to see this or not, but there were a lot of subtle contradictions. i liked how you added refrences; it was an interesting twist which made it seem like an actual lesson. i got the feeling that this was almost a satirical poem, especially at the last sentence. the last stanza seems to take on a completely different tone, like that of a child. all in all, great piece.

I believe beauty is a 'butterfly on a rock'..... this was perfect

OK. Interesting philosophical poem. Many good points. I like the patience stanza.
Here is a contradition:
and some have said,
that beauty is truth and truth beauty,
or
beauty is that which within you lies,
I am afraid that it is otherwise,
knowing the souls that linger here,
but you may prove me wrong,
but beware; it is a road with snares.
If beauty lies within, within what? What else is there but the mind, soul, heart? Most think of beauty within as something within the soul. At least that's what I've found most agree to.
The ( ) references to great authors is not necessary. This made the poem seem like a rough draft.
On the whole you finally did come down on one particular side of each of these issues, although it is presented like you don't know what side you favor.
Interesting writing. -
I like this... I enjoy poems that take me on a journey, and i felt this one did... with its sections and the topics for each. I noticed one thing in this line;
"everything there is know about that other subject."
i think you mean,
"everything there is TO know about that other subject"
I just love these lines;
"since everyone will lie to you,
and of course, agree
including me if you are not careful
of what I say."
Great write, enjoyed this,

"ant they should love you?" hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
This made me smile. All the rules for living right there. I hope lots read it. ~~~Val -
love it!
Thank you, I really like this. I will keep coming back to this one, needs further examination. To realize oneself there must be something to reflect upon to come full circle. Love it!

"The absolute inadequacy of any word
ever spoken or read or written
to express what you are truly feeling
inside." Very nicely put. I've felt this many times.
Indeed the truth is a very thorny subject. I'm going to have to study this in detail and come back and comment. But provisional comment is I enjoy it very much.
