Jungle Nightmare

I am in tragic danger,
My breath shorten by each heart beat.
I hear their footsteps through the Jungle,
“Go faster ” I encourage my feet.

They are heartless,
They will shoot anything that breaths.
You never see them though,
For they hide in the leaves.

I am only a child,
Why can’t they see?
I do not wish to die,
To fertilize the trees

The smell of salt fills my senses,
As I continue to flee.
Why do they kill?
Will this be the end for me?

I am worried and frighten,
A river, I spy.
I cannot swim too well,
But at least I can try.

The current carries me,
Rocks jab at my sides,
But I do not care,
I am saving my hide.

I am away from the jungle,
I am so relieved,
To wake and discover,
It was only a dream.

Author notes

I wrote this for a poetry project for school.

That's about it.
