Lost in confusion’s grandeur and sweet glare,
the touch you gave caused me to have this fear.
Now, you are locked behind prison’s steel gate,
lingering in pain I long to escape.
Should you see beyond visitation glass,
you will know who you left behind today.
A woman, no longer fearing your face,
striving to move beyond your dark image.
Through the mirror speaking truth to me now,
{I seldom see your face in my eyes dear}
beauty shines, grace is emitted today,
and I smile knowing you are not here.
No black and blue marks to hide with make-up,
no bones to conceal behind large tee shirts,
no words to block from my ears and shed tears,
only me, full of love, in the mirror.

excellent expression
Your words reveal some very disturbing memories. I am happy you have been able to get past these dark memories, and when looking into the mirror, you only see the happy, new you.
"beauty shines, grace is emitted today,
and I smile knowing you are not here."
Thank you for entering this contest, and good luck.
