In Our Season

was it that long ago
that I found you

the most beautiful flower in the field

you were glorious
a vision in feminine perfection

as lovely a woman, as God had created

we were like children
dancing in the flowered fields of life

enjoying the sun filled times together

and the days passed
almost without knowing

one blending into another, pretending forever

and the seasons changed
so many times, we never even noticed

yet every flower has it season to bloom

and the plush petals in time
will wilt away, and be stained at the edges

still I remember you,  forever as you were

the most beautiful flower in the field
and that time, when we were children

and we were beautiful together

in our season

Leel

Author notes

I made these words for my wife of 25 years, Mary

She was 18 when I met her at a time of human perfection
It has hert my heart to see her age to become fifty

I believe this acceptance is harder for women
they remember all too well, and see the suddel changes

I will always love her
for all she is, and all she has been to me

Twenty five years together is a long time together and the changes are so subtle until one day we realise how different we are but the inner beauty is still there and I think that is what most people view in a life long partner. This poem is a lovely tribute to the love you have shared through the years. The seasons move on but each one holds its own beauty and is there to be enjoyed

Every line of this devotion is perfect. There is no line of most favorite or least favorite for it is all written with such perfection. Your story of such love and devotion to "the most beautiful flower in the field" is a wonder to read. I have the feeling that she is gone from your life now, if I am wrong please tell me so, and if I have said too much please tell me that too, but I feel you have said all this in honor of your first love who is no longer with you. Your friend forever, Sylvia, aka Mysty Rian

Well 50's may not be that hard on all of us, I think 26 was my hardest age. But anyways, back to the poem. This poem took me back to a time when I was 14 and a dear friend of mine, as we shared some of the Summer together and never wanted it to end...Thank you for the lovely morning read as always...

What a wonderful tribute to a woman you love. It is true (for me, at least) that I see the changes that take place as I age. This is remarkably tender and caring. You have expressed a love so deep and overflowing with acceptance of the changes of the seasons in our lives. Well done. A majestic piece of work from the heart. Well deserved gold.

    Rick...

I remember these words. You've used them to do poetic justice to a woman I know you have the deepest respect and love for, even now. I think true love is like that though...it changes...sometimes growing together, and other times taking a couple in different directions...but either way, never losing the basic element of friendship that brought them together in the first place. Congratulations on a very well deserved gold. I love it when you write with a strong metaphor such as in this; it just seems to add so much beauty to your thoughts.

    Wonderful work!
    Much love,
