Oh Lord as we Fast and Pray

Oh Lord, Father, we come together,
to bring our cares, for many others,
before you in prayers and fasting.
We lift up our voices in praise
and glorify you!!

For you are and were and always
will be, the beginning and the end,
the merciful and loving God
the great ‘I AM’!!

It is with the knowledge and
understanding, that only through
your grace and mercy,
can we come before you.
Humbly in your love we stay,
our cares at your feet we lay
as we fast and pray.

Father, you said ‘whatever you ask
in my name will be given you’.
Oh Lord! We ask today for
comfort for the ill,
sustenance for the poor,
and strength for the weak.

Lord, for those who walk
according to your will, doing
your bidding, we ask, Oh Lord,
that you give them courage
and perseverance and an
awareness of your glorious
presence in their daily
lives.

Above all Oh Lord, we ask
for the Holy Spirit, to move
among us and bring a new
revelation of You, to the
many lost souls upon
the earth.

We ask all this in
Jesus’s Holy name
Amen

There is, for me, a bit of a conflict within this prayerful poem and that is the use of "great I AM" in reference to God. In my youth this was a term of derision usually reserved for someone who was a self-centred nobody who thought they were above the rest of us. This is certainly not my view of God.

It's funny how a prayer and poetry can intersect, that never occurred to me before. How wonderful!

    Wow

I can only really say one thing. Wow.I may have to take "steal" this poem/prayer is is really deep.I know that alot of poems are dark or romantic because those feeling can really stick out. But apparently other poeple like you look past abysal hole and the gloom and praise Him with your writing. I am inspired by this prayer and will have to write a glorifying poem after I catch up on putting my other work on this website. I hope you will continue to write prayers of this magnatude.I thank you and God Bless

i thought this is a beautiful prayer.you kept it simply but true to our heavenly father.you know i hate to say this but for many years i believed in god but my own eyes and heart has seen that he does live and for the ones that have faith knows that and all we can do for the rest of the folks that still question is to keep them in our prayers. thank you for a uplifting write.

    sorry

Do not pin your hopes on god, the world is what we make it and we must take responsibility for it, we must make a difference because there is no god. not meant be anything other than a heart felt comment.

    respect to you

    perdix.

Thank you for your comment and I respect what you feel. I must tell you though that I do not hope on God but have faith in Him and have never found him wanting rather He has been ever faithful to me. I pray that you will find Him and share His ever loving grace, peace, love and mercy. God bless

    Reads Like...

...a Biblically spiritual prescription. What I appreciate is that this isn't a prayer written for a God that's being treated like a heavenly butler. Is He God, after all. While He may bless, I believe we should seek for our needs and not our 'greeds'.

As I read this I thought of the following verse:

“Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
To loose the bonds of wickedness,
    To undo the heavy burdens,
To let the oppressed go free,
And that you break every yoke?
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,
    And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out;
When you see the naked, that you cover him,
And not hide yourself from your own flesh?"--Isa. 58:6-7

    God bless!

Amen, this is a beautiful prayer. It can be difficult to do the Lords bidding and sometimes we need help so that we can continue. A wonderful write.

It's always a little wierd to give a critical comment about a religious piece, simply due to the spiritual nature of the poem. I'm not Christian, but I can still sympathize with the sentiments. This reads like a prayer, but I've often believed some of the best poetry is found in the Bible, so its very fitting that I view it this way. Very touching write here.

Thank you very much for the comment. It is true it can be difficult to give a critical comment on prayer and that is why I appreciate every comment. God bless
