The Summer End Solace

Alone, Autumn creeps in around me
Naked trees, no Aspen leaves, stare down, they know that I feel small
Relaxed in comfort, warm in a cocoon of cloth, excluding my frozen face

All day long the elements fought and silence is the victor
No wind no hum, just pitiless cold, the sun soon to go under
Flash! the flame, the fire will protect me
Unless the clouds want another

Nightfall caps the spies above, I can see them standing near
Fire roaring enthralls all thought
Until startled by barking logs

Retrieve a twig from the light
Its purpose ignite a stogie
Content, at peace, exhaling sweet poison
Fire's smoke takes mine as partner, and dance into sweet slumber
