"The Left Coast"

The Left Coast

Granola and hemp all around
Scent of starbucks and patchouli
Hybrid cars and cold wet ground
Crunchy kids sip lattes coolly

They like to hike, but never go
Wear Birkenstocks with everything
They save the whales, but never know
If their protest helps anything

just useless liberal arts degrees
From five hemp soaked years of school
Good thing their parents pay their fees
And we wonder why they act a fool.

They protest war, famine, and strife
All just to get a social life.

Author notes

Written on my last visit to Seattle - where my brother and his wife live. quite offensive, for which i make no apology. hopefully you see the humor.

well it's obvious that you are brilliant. It was a pleasure to read your poetry. Don't take your life for grannted because you could be a real benefit to society if you made a choice to- which I think you already know. This poem is your worst- but with a little more attention to the ending and to the details, and a lot more thought about this issue, and you will have yet another brilliant poem.
