Artic Falcon

Window window
Upon the sill
What panes you have
To shiver bare
Each candle wick

What shutters
In this bitter cold
Can keep out
The bellow
From hollow a wood

I listen to
Barking echoes
Of eleven in a pack
And the twelfth
Is at my door
Beneath the threshold
He swaps breathes
With my cat

I launch a stare
As I did my arrows
Last fall
Into the river
The rocks and her beach

I listen to
The fog horn
From the vessels
And the bells that answer

I listen to silence
As a captain's laughter
Spills from a cough
He holds steady his
Candle lit lantern
To steal a view
From a windows frost

I watch the ships
That pass in the night
I count their lights
