Fossilized

I can't shake the feeling.
I can't outrun the stench.
My blistered skin is peeling
As I duck down in this trench.
Dodging bullets in my sleep,
I burrow underground.
There's nothing we're allowed to keep.
Nothing will be found
Outside of the tarpits
Or the random riverbanks
Where clumsy specimens
Are forever giving thanks.
Stuck in mud, some are preserved
For future generations.
In museums, they'll be observed--
Subjects of conversation.
The Pharoahs had their bodies saved
For who-knows-what occasion.
Egypt's neighbors were enslaved
And toiled for preservation
Of the very kings who held the chains
And herded men like cattle,
Obsessing over their own remains,
While millions died in battle.
Countless soldiers died in vain,
Unknown forever after.
(For Ninety-Nine-Point-Nine Percent,
It Never Really Mattered.)

    Great

I don't want it to feel like favoritism, but you are my favorite poet bro! You are a fascinating person who's mind alot of people would love to peer inside for at least just a little bit. Keep writing! After I read, I am always yearning for more!

Is that a Britney Spears song? lol

I agree with the stanza comment. I just keep forgetting what they are called! lol

This was definitely a very interesting piece. Somehow, the way it rhymed helped the poem to move along very smoothly. A very wonderful, well-written poem. The only small thing I have to say is maybe you could divide this into other stanzas, but that's not a necessity at all as it's excellent like this!
