Farm:
The clapboard house had never felt paint,
and I guess it never did.
Thinking now, it was rather small,
but it seemed bigger as a kid.
Work was hard on a share croppers farm,
it was tough but we did abide.
Coming home we’d see the window light,
we knew there was love and warmth inside.
Dreams:
There won’t be no more daylight till dark,
plowing on a tractor all day.
And I won’t be out sweating in the sun,
bailing and stacking that hay.
I’m gonna have me a brand new car,
and a house with carpet on the floor,
And a toilet that’s built inside the house,
Not out back with a moon on the door.
Army:
I’ve lift my glass, and drink my share,
of the wine that’s known as pride.
And walked among some gallant men,
And matched them stride for stride.
The need is gone for my service now,
I’ll hang up my Green Beret.
And pass the flame to younger men,
unless called again some day.
Work:
Life’s been full for this Texas boy,
I don’t have to much to regret.
But my body feels like too many times,
I’ve been rode hard and put up wet.
I’ve picked some cotton, fought a war,
did some jumping out of planes.
Drove race cars and switched boxcars,
and rode a lot of trains.
Wife:
I do have one redeeming grace,
that’s put meaning to my life.
The Lord must really love me,
He gave me Karen to be my wife.
I’ve tried to figure out this world,
and as yet I have no answer.
I’ve tried my best to do my share,
and now I have a cancer...
She's laughed with me when times were good,
was my shelter in stormy weather.
So with God’s help, I’ll beat this thing,
and we’ll grow old together...
Old:
I used to sport a thick head of hair,
that was wilder than a Canadian Goose.
But time again has taken its toll,
what ain’t turning gray is turning loose.
My elbows, knees and ankles hurt ,
I think they’re wearing out.
My stomach hurts , my hearing’s bad,
and I think I’ve got the Gout.
Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
that’s what I was always told.
But no one bothered to tell me,
things get tough when you get old..

This was a beautiful write that has taken me a long time to find. Page by page I am coming across ones I have not read. Awesome stuff this, but I hope not all of it is true....It was very rythmic and the flow just sensational. You laid your whole life out here for people to see and what a life you have had. I am actually playing a game at the moment called 'Trainz Driver' It has some really awesome Locomotives in it. I have to try and shunt the trainz, drive them and all sorts of stuff. I love trains. Anyway, this write is just super and I see you won gold with it. Congrats on that mate.
