Like all cages
they limit choice
not freedom.
Freedom is a state of mind
and
Choices are actions.
Because of my confinement
in my gilded cage,
I am unable to choose
a meaningful career
and more importantly to me
a life partner.
My dream is to be free,
wash the dishes
for her after supper,
run her a warm bath,
wash her hair ever so lovingly.
As she rises from the bath,
I wrap a towel around her,
take her hand in mine
and lead her to the bed.
As the towel drops,
I slowly begin kissing her lips
from corner to corner
And can taste her sweetness.
As we fall back into the bed,
my lips find her neck,
and nuzzle in the warmth of her.
My fingertips from sensory memory
surround her nipples and
envelop their texture.
My lips follow the curves
and crevasses of her body
and the primal moans of satisfaction
and the pulsing rhythms of love
can be felt.
I awake from my dream
and the world is staring at me
asking who are you
in that gilded cage?
My question is always in return
where in your life
have you hidden
the gilded cage
that you inhabit?

You've given the reader much to ponder here. I like the way you've used the "gilded cage" and how its kept you from what you truly want out of this life, yet its as if you think everyone should have this cage as if its just the way it is. Thought provoking, great flow. Open the door and fly! hugs, Kelly

You know, this was interesting because I really can't think of any other piece that I've read in which the end poses not only a question, but one that speaks TO the reader. That's pretty great. Also, the beginning was great because it posed me with a different perspective on "being caged". I like the way you present that. This was very cool, different.
