I look in the mirror
And apply my mask
A mask to hide my secrets
A mask that says I'm happy
I look in the mirror
And see a face
A face with no name
A stranger's face
I look in the mirror
And all I can see
Are sad eyes and a sad frown
A sadness so vivid from deep within
I look in the mirror
And see no hope
No strength to pull through
No sunny day
I look in the mirror
And a tear escapes my eyes
Another sign of weakness
Can you see how pathetic I am?
I look in the mirror
And a hand comes towards me
A helping hand that I can hold
A sign that someone cares
I look in the mirror
And see a smile
I see the strength that one beholds
I can see me
When you look in the mirror
What can you see?

This is a nice poem, very self searching. *hug*s and best wishes ~Genie~

It is a poet's prerogative to dissect with his words anything or anyone (s)he sees fit in order to widen the scope of awareness concerning the subject. Including the poet's own spirit. Introspection is to certain extent exploring familiar ground, but there is always beyond. This is where it gets tricky and interesting, where observers are provoked to follow or not. The command of words and the depth of perception determines the impact of the poem. I suspect you have the talent to do this. Keep writing, exploring and communicating (for which purpose poetry is a most magnificent way). Thank you for creating and sharing. Good luck in the contest. Take care,
