Hiding behind a smile
The control of a world
Masking the inside
With what they want to see
Me is not who you think I am
The truth is not what you believe
This woman is still a girl
Small in a frightening world
Alone with her troubles
Bearing the weight of her cares
Facing the day single
Ending the night with no one
Resting on her own shoulders
Weeping in her own arms
She may seem strong and happy
As you see her you may think
But more is behind those brown eyes
A struggle to float or sink.
Author notes
I wrote this piece on December 15 2005. It was a very lonely and dark time for me. Not one of my best works but a very personal one.
Please tell me what you think

To me I think this piece says "masks we wear," because we all wear these masks that people see and when we are alone we take the mask off to reveal the person underneath. This piece is really touching and it really reaches my heart. I love it girl, I feel your pain.

I agree with Steph. Even though you wrote this a while ago, it's still really good. But who are we kidding? All of your work is really good! Shrugs on a title. Maybe something like Empty Facade or.... I don't know. This is a toughie! Brilliant job, yet again!

Awe, wow this is powerful. Even if it was written almost 2 years ago, it really hits me. I know what you mean here, not in the same exact way, but i get you. This is really good!
