Muted

I am
A shyer sunshine
Muted behind grey clouds
[I'll never dazzle you]
Unobtrusive
Like hazy springtime light
You
Have to choose
To notice me or not

[Though you may never see me]

I'll smile on you
I'll shine on you regardless

[I truly hope
I've brightened up
Your life]

Author notes

I am ridiculously, painfully shy and as a result a lot of people think I'm really standoffish and snobbish. But I have an incredibly compassionate heart; I can't think of anyone in this world that I would wish misfortune on and I try my best to unobtrusively make people's lives better... this poem is me.

It was a metaphor, I'm afraid. The whole thing was actually a metaphor for "shy," so this poem was entirely about being shy. Sorry it wasn't what you were looking for, and thankyou for hosting the contest.

      Best wishes etc,

    Let you light Shine

You sound like such a beautiful person. Start thinking about those reasons for your shyness. You know what they are. Then go talk it over with someone you can trust. You can learn how to get through your lack of self confidence. You have absolutely NO REASON to feel shy. I can tell what a darling you are.

This poem is outstanding! The gorgeous, vivid metaphoric imagery is fantastic, really grasping true meaning behind each word. It seizes the concept of the shy and timid, superbly (I know because I am extremely shy, myself). I can really relate to this piece. It is so often that the shy ones are cast aside and unnoticed, but it is the meek, when one takes the time to notice, that have some of the most passionate, loving souls. Superb write, absolutely stunning! Well done!!!
