Beltane 'Round the May Pole

The new summer sun
Warms the pristine air
As Sisters and I dance the field
A wonderous sight it is to see
The naked, curving forms jump bonfires
Praying the the Sun God to fill them with his seed

Each girl goes as the Goddess
To meet the men at their revels
This year I am the honored one
First to choose among the men
My God-consort in human form

Golden sun reflects off dark curls
A tall, strong, gentle creature stands
His eyes a-fire with passion and reverance
Looking at me as I take his hand

Merrily into the woods I lead him
Each sister after picking another man
All dispersing through the trees

We consecrate the earth with our lovemaking
Feed the ground below with swea and energy

And in the morning we lie naked in the dewy grass

Author notes

When you read the piece, noticed how each stanza winds down until there's only one line. That is to symbolize the ribbons wound around the May Pole
