Gasping for breath
body shuddering
I can only stand by and watch
helpless
as my father kneels by her side
holding her
shifting the way she lies
trying to relax the muscles
threatening to strangle her
Whistling
shuddering
gasping breaths
I can only stand by and watch
terrified
Scarier than your dead eyes
and radiating hate
she’s dying
and I can only stand by and watch
as my father kneels by her side
[don’t die]
I want to scream
[you can’t die
you can’t leave us
me
you can’t leave me]
I drown myself in music
trying to forget the sound
whistling
shuddering
shallow
scared breaths
I can only stand by
and watch

I felt the same way when my mother died. We were all by her side. I feel your pain. My mother wanted to talk to me about things she wanted done, but, I refused to listen. I told her she wasn't going anywhere and where she goes I would follow. How silly of me. I wish I had listened to her final wishes. I was in denial. Don't be scared be supportive in every possible way. I wish you peace. Good luck in the contest.

i am very sorry for the pain you must feel everyday and for the fear that controls you. however, it hasn't prevented you from expressing yourself through the art of poetry. this poem is very good, easpecailly the image of wanting to scream but not being able to. it's powerful and people can feel what you intended them to feel through this write. keep up the good work and don't forget to hope!
