The mirror has long been my enemy,
It's been hateful, evil and cruel,
Distorting images before me,
To my angry fire it gave fuel.
But the sparkfire living within me,
That angrily showed its disgust,
To the reflection standing before me
Has been blown out by a gust.
For the wind that fed my emotions,
And the breeze that brought all my fear,
Have been transformed by the notion
That to God’s love I’d adhere.
And through Him I have learned patience,
And to let my thoughts go and transcend,
To give my life a new buoyance,
In the mirror I now see a friend.

Very moving.
I have heard of people,(mainly ladies.) who do see themselves this way. I couldn't imagine this. But this poem did bring it to light. I pray this findds someone in need as I am sure it would help. Great job on a sensitive subject in the days of these "Hollywood" women.

wow dat was amazing i can relate to that as i myself used to have problems with looking at myself in the mirror but now my reflection and me too are friends and the picture you added really gives a great enhancement on your writting. good work!!

The picture you have here really does add to the emotion of the poem and I love the message you offer in this. Self-image or the lack thereof is a terrible beast, I know how it can take over your life, I am happy you are able to find solice. I love the rhymes you have in this, they all seem natural. Great write and keep the faith.

I love the image at the top, it's really true in the feelings
The poem reflected the picture in its own beauty
The title really captured the feeling of the poem and the feeling of how people feel
You got the emotions and captured many beautiful, twisted images
The spiritual essence was great, I agree with you
Brilliant piece, wonderuflly captured

Much love, thank you so much for entering

This is great. I know many girls who have gone through the whole anorexia bit, or bulimia or just plain hating what they see in the mirror. This poem should speak to them. Good job. And as you would say...write on, poet.

Love the image, you captured it very nicely in your work....really nice job!

Very powerful, hope the sentiment catches on!

okay, so the religion doesn't fit mine but i can still relate. for a long time i thought that about myself but then i met my boyfriend and he has helped me a great deal and now i'm comfortable with myself. i know i'm not fat but i was never happy with what i saw. awesome write. the emotion is strong and many people can relate. it sends a strong message to the reader and a message of hope. keep penning.

I wish I had read this before I went shopping on Saturday.I hate clothes shopping. The mirror tells so many lies.On a more serious note I do think that we need to learn to love ourselves more or how can we expect anyone else too and yes I am sure there is a higher power.Great poem, Ros
