(Beware, dear reader, this is not a poem for fairy-lovers, hippies, princesses or wimps.
This is a poem for the friends of Dracula, werewolves and such.)
My best friend is a vampire
With huge canine teeth
When she has eaten, they are rosy-red like a poppy wreath.
But normally they sparkle bright white
In the silvery-grey moonlight.
She wakes at midnight
When there is no light
And devours rotting flesh
Which is a treat because it is still reasonably fresh
During the night she stealthily prowls
And frightens all the barnyard owls
Then turns her attention to her true goals
Which is preying upon hopeless souls
At dawn she disappears
Because one of her greatest fears
Is coming her way
It is sunrise and oh no, the break of day!
She swirls her ebony black cape
Around her body like sticky tape
Then transforms into a bat
With yellow eyes just like a cat
Off she flies, to her hiding place
A cave as dark as a shoelace
Faster and faster she flaps
Like a bird in one of a hunter's traps
Daybreak is on her heels,
It's getting faster as if on wheels
She is as small as a dot
And the sun is very hot
The horizon is near
She can see it, it's very clear
Just in time it catches her wing
Away from daylight's sting
Even though she has been saved by her faithful friend
She can feel the end
For over 300 years
She has left people in tears
With her nightly feasts
On human and on beasts
But she is not as young or as agile as she once was before
When she could fly and feed upon corpses galore
Tomorrow she shall let daylight come
And tear her to shreds, as it did to her mum
Her reign of horror will be ended
And it shall never be mended
